This course covers Earth materials and processes. Topics include an introduction to the fundamental features of the earth's internal and external processes, identification of rocks and minerals, the nature and measurement of geologic time, and the unifying role of the theory of plate tectonics.
GEOL 1122K Intro Geosci II: Hist Geol

This course covers geologic time, sedimentary environments, fossils, and Earth history. Topics include an introduction to methods and concepts by which Earth history is interpreted; the geologic time scale; interpretation of the rock record; interactions of physical, chemical, and biological processes through time.
GEOL 2121K Natural Hazards
This course explores the powerful forces behind volcanoes, earthquakes, landslides, and floods. This course dives into the science of natural disasters, focusing on how we predict events and evaluate risk. You will analyze how human decisions can either escalate or reduce the impact of these hazards and investigate the paths society can take to monitor and mitigate future damage.
GEOL 3603 Environmental Geology
This course introduces the application of geologic principles to issues arising from interactions between human activities and the Earth system. Major topics include geologic hazards (such as flooding, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and coastal erosion) as well as critical geologic resources (including water, soils, minerals, and energy). Students will analyze case studies and will evaluate requirements for building a sustainable society.
